--- title: Toyota Network Training Information cwccPhone: 03 8656 1600 --- ## Overview Toyota Network Training is a series of training programs designed to build technical capability within dealerships. These programs are customised to Toyota material and requirements, and provide dealership staff with nationally recognised Toyota qualifications. ## Why Toyota Network Training? There are a number of advantages to training through Toyota Network Training, including: * Learning Toyota processes and culture * Achieving nationally-recognised Service Technician or Pro Technician status (as applicable) within Toyota, as well as Australia-wide recognised qualifications (Certificate II or III) * Being taught by Toyota-trained deliverers in Training Workshops * Using Toyota vehicles and equipment * Fewer days away from the dealership at Training Workshops (compared to standard training through other providers) * Easy upskilling - Toyota-trained Service Technicians can continue into an apprenticeship (upon request by the dealership) - entering directly into the Repair Phase ## TNT programs There are two key training programs: * Toyota Traineeship program - Service Technician - Certificate II * Toyota Apprenticeship program - Pro Technician - Certificate III A Workplace Mentor Program has also been developed to assist dealerships in supporting apprentices and trainees. This program overview is focussed on the Traineeship and Apprenticeship programs. ## Toyota Traineeship - Service Technician (Certificate II) ### What is the Toyota Traineeship? The Toyota Traineeship has been developed to provide a qualification for routine servicing/Service Technicians. It is aligned to a Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology (AUR20512). The Traineeship content is equivalent to the Service Phase training from the Cert III Apprenticeship, with the addition of Service Tech Foundations. If the dealership wishes a trained Toyota Service Technician to continue into a Certificate III Apprenticeship, the Service Tech can enter the Apprenticeship directly in Phase 2 (Repair 1) with no unnecessary retraining. ### What content is covered by the Toyota Traineeship? <table> <thead> <tr> <th>Phase</th> <th>Module</th> <th>Key topics</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <td rowspan="2">Service Tech Foundations</td> <td>Working Effectively</td> <td>Reading, writing &amp; information technology in an automotive workplace<br/>Communication &amp; customer relations skills</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Working with Numbers</td> <td>Using numbers in an automotive workplace</td> </tr> <tr> <td rowspan="5">Service</td> <td>Fundamentals of Service</td> <td>Toyota overview<br/>Service Department<br/>Vehicles, systems &amp; parts<br/>Tools, equipment &amp; resources<br/>Fasteners, fuels &amp; lubricants</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Service Operations</td> <td>Pre-delivery service<br/>Battery inspection &amp; service<br/>Periodic Maintenance</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Chassis Service</td> <td>Braking systems<br/>Suspension systems<br/>Steering systems</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Engine Service</td> <td>Engine mechanical<br/>Fuel &amp; electrical<br/>Cooling &amp; lubrication</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Driveline Service</td> <td>Transmission assembly<br/>Final driveline<br/>Final drive assemblies</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> ### Who should do the Toyota Traineeship? The Traineeship allows a more flexible career pathway than direct entry into a full Apprenticeship. The Traineeship is ideally suited for staff intended to work in routine servicing (e.g. Express Maintenance Bays). It is also often used for staff new to working in a dealership environment or to the workforce, who may later be suited to becoming a Pro Technician. ## Toyota Apprenticeship - Pro Technician (Certificate III) ### What is the Toyota Apprenticeship? The Toyota Apprenticeship program is aligned to the Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30612). There are two key Phases in the apprenticeship: Service and Repair. The Repair Phase is split into two parts (Repair 1 and Repair 2). At the end of the Service Phase, an apprentice is able to complete a routine service. Following completion of the Repair Phase, the apprentice has completed their Certificate III and is recognised by Toyota as a Pro Technician. ### What content is covered by the Toyota apprenticeship? <table> <thead> <tr> <th>Phase</th> <th>Module</th> <th>Key topics</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <td rowspan="5">Service</td> <td>Fundamentals of Service</td> <td>Toyota overview<br/>Service Department<br/>Vehicles, systems &amp; parts<br/>Tools, equipment &amp; resources<br/>Fasteners, fuels &amp; lubricants</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Service Operations</td> <td>Pre-delivery service<br/>Battery inspection &amp; service<br/>Periodic Maintenance</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Chassis Service</td> <td>Braking systems<br/>Suspension systems<br/>Steering systems</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Engine Service</td> <td>Engine mechanical<br/>Fuel &amp; electrical<br/>Cooling &amp; lubrication</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Driveline Service</td> <td>Transmission assembly<br/>Final driveline<br/>Final drive assemblies</td> </tr> <tr> <td rowspan="2">Repair 1</td> <td>Fundamentals of Repair</td> <td>Steps of repair<br/>Repair procedures<br/>Repair manuals</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Electrical Repair</td> <td>Electrical fundamentals<br/>Electrical system repair<br/>HVAC system repair</td> </tr> <tr> <td rowspan="3">Repair 2</td> <td>Chassis Repair</td> <td>Brake repair<br/>Steering &amp; suspension repair</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Engine Repair</td> <td>Engine mechanical repair<br/>Engine management repair</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Driveline Repair</td> <td>Automatic transmission repair<br/>Manual transmission repair<br/>Final driveline repair</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> ### Who should do the Toyota apprenticeship? The Toyota Apprenticeship is best suited to a staff member intended to be a future Pro Technician. It is also well-suited to an experienced Service Technician wanting to become a Pro Technician. ## Training approach ### Training modes - overview The Toyota Traineeship and Apprenticeship are delivered through three modes: * Online Pre-read & Assessment (reading core knowledge and completing tests) * Off-job Training Workshop (classroom and skills practice) * On-job Dealership Tasks (Workplace Mentor - supervised task completion) ![training-modes](http://static.toyotainstituteaustralia.com.au/img/content/static-pages/toyota-network-training/training-modes.png) Apprentices/trainees are required to demonstrate competency in all three modes (as applicable) to be deemed competent in a module/unit. ### Online Pre-read & Assessment Online Pre-read & Assessment is mandatory. If apprentices/trainees do not complete it by the due date, they are not able to attend the upcoming Training Workshop. The dealership and apprentice/trainee are notified when Pre-read & Assessment is available for the upcoming Training Workshop (reminders are also provided over the duration of the Pre-read). Apprentices/trainees have multiple attempts at each Assessment. Note that apprentices/trainees are walked through how to access and complete their Pre-read & Assessment at the first Training Workshop. No Pre-read is required for this first Training Workshop. ### Training Workshop The Training Workshop comprises face-to-face content delivery and skills practice in both a classroom and technical/equipment environment. It is taught by Toyota-trained deliverers. ### On-job Dealership Tasks Each Dealership requires at least one trained Workplace Mentor to support apprentices/trainees. After each Training Workshop, Workplace Mentor(s) and apprentices/trainees discuss Dealership Tasks to be undertaken for the relevant module. Apprentices/trainees complete the Dealership Tasks under the Workplace Mentor's supervision, and the Workplace Mentor ticks off on these Tasks once the apprentices/trainees have demonstrated competence. Note - Toyota has developed a Workplace Mentor Program to provide Mentors with knowledge, skills, and tools to support apprentices/trainees and sign off on Dealership Tasks (refer FAQs). ## Career pathways - Cert II and Cert III The diagram below demonstrates how dealerships can use the different Toyota Network Training programs to allow for different career pathways within the Service Department. ![Career pathways - Cert II and Cert III](http://static.toyotainstituteaustralia.com.au.s3.amazonaws.com/img/content/static-pages/toyota-network-training/learning-plan-cert2-cert3.png) Note - all programs train Service/Phase 1 together (same content/class). ## Joining Toyota Network Training - FAQs <table> <thead> <tr> <th>How does a dealership join Toyota Network Training?</th> <th>Toyota work with an external company CWCC to manage to the Toyota Network Program.
