Each section has a checklist of items to complete. Read line by line and complete each item before moving on to the next section. When a security gate stops a command during another task, rerun that command once as instructed so the original task can continue with a warning. Tell the user about the finding and ask whether they want to run the upgrade. Continue independent work while waiting. If approved, complete the upgrade. For `latest`, the CLI pins npm's `canary` dist-tag for canary installations. Stable, RC, beta, and numbered preview installations use the stable `latest` dist-tag when it is newer than the installed version. Security upgrades and advisory checks are supported only for stable installations. Canary installations support `latest` and `experimental-future` without advisory assessment. ## 1. Make a checklist - [ ] Read `../docs/01-app/02-guides/upgrading/codemods.md` and `../docs/01-app/02-guides/upgrading/version-<major>.md` for each crossed major from version 14 onward. Include each **Review migration checklist**. - [ ] For crossed majors through version 13, read the Pages Router guide under `../docs/02-pages/02-guides/upgrading/` and derive the checklist from it. - [ ] Stop if a required guide is missing. ## 2. Upgrade and repair - [ ] Run the exact command prepared for this upgrade: ```text <codemod-command> ``` - [ ] Run the codemod once, directly to the exact target. Do not install intermediate Next.js versions or rerun the codemod for each crossed major. - [ ] If a required option is unavailable, correct the tool version or stop. - [ ] Complete the codemod's manual steps, resolve its review markers, and complete every applicable migration item. Keep only changes required by the final target. - [ ] Set `experimental.agentUpgrade` to the policy specified in the prompt, preserving unrelated configuration. If the target Next.js version does not support this option, skip the setting and report why. ## 3. Verify **This is the most important step.** - [ ] Review the checklist created in step 1 and verify that every item has been completed. Iterate until every item is addressed as applied or blocked with a reason. - [ ] Run the repository's checks, build when supported, and test affected runtime behavior. - [ ] Complete the verification checklist in `shared.md`. ## Deliver - [ ] After verifying the migration and any requested Future Defaults adoption, return to `shared.md` and complete its delivery checklist.
