# Publishing to npm

## Prerequisites

1. Ensure you're logged in to npm with your liamhelmer account:
   ```bash
   npm login
   ```

2. Verify you're logged in as the correct user:
   ```bash
   npm whoami
   ```

## Publishing Steps

1. **Update the version** in package.json if needed:
   ```bash
   npm version patch  # or minor/major
   ```

2. **Build the project**:
   ```bash
   npm run build
   ```

3. **Test the package locally**:
   ```bash
   npm pack
   # This creates network-performance-monitor-1.0.0.tgz
   
   # Test installation
   npm install -g ./network-performance-monitor-1.0.0.tgz
   network-performance-monitor --version
   ```

4. **Publish to npm**:
   ```bash
   npm publish
   ```

## After Publishing

Test the published package:

```bash
# Test with npx
npx network-performance-monitor --version

# Test global install
npm install -g network-performance-monitor
network-performance-monitor --version
```

- **Bin commands**: 
  - `network-performance-monitor`
  - `npm-monitor` (shorter alias)
