Common issues and solutions for new users
# First Time Setup
## "Command not found: npx"
```bash
Install Node.js and npm first
Windows: Download from https://nodejs.org
Mac: brew install node
Linux: sudo apt install nodejs npm
```
## "Failed to run init command"
1. Make sure you're in your repository's root directory
2. Verify you have write permissions
3. Try running with sudo if needed: `sudo npx near-protocol-rewards init`
## "track command not working"
⚠️ The `track` command has been replaced with `calculate`:
- Use `calculate` in GitHub Actions and locally
- Run `init` to update your workflow file
- Your metrics history is preserved
# GitHub Actions
## "Actions not running?"
1. Go to your repository on GitHub
2. Click "Actions" tab
3. Look for "NEAR Protocol Rewards Tracking"
4. Check if workflow is enabled
## "Workflow permission errors?"
1. Go to repository Settings
2. Click Actions → General
3. Scroll to "Workflow permissions"
4. Enable "Read and write permissions"
5. Save changes
## "GITHUB_TOKEN errors?"
- You don't need to set up any tokens
- GitHub Actions provides this automatically
- Just make sure workflow permissions are correct
## "Resource not accessible by integration" Error
If you see this error in GitHub Actions:
1. Add permissions to your workflow file:
```yaml
permissions:
contents: read
issues: read
pull-requests: read
```
2. Commit the changes to your repository
3. Re-run the failed workflow
# Rewards Calculation
```bash
npx near-protocol-rewards calculate
```
## "calculate command not working"
1. In GitHub Actions:
- Run `init` to generate the correct workflow
- Check Actions tab for any errors
- Verify workflow permissions
2. For local testing:
```bash
export GITHUB_TOKEN="your_github_pat_token"
export GITHUB_REPO="owner/repo"
npx near-protocol-rewards calculate
```
## "Rewards showing $0 or incorrect level?"
1. Verify recent activity:
- Need minimum activity in last week
- Check your recent commits/PRs
- Review validation warnings
## "Monthly projection seems wrong?"
1. Monthly projection is 4x weekly reward
2. Weekly reward tiers are:
- Diamond ($2,500/week): 90+ score
- Platinum ($2,000/week): 80-89 score
- Gold ($1,500/week): 70-79 score
- Silver ($1,000/week): 60-69 score
- Bronze ($500/week): Below 60
## "Score seems low?"
Check contribution mix:
1. Commits: Regular coding activity
2. Pull Requests: Integrating changes
3. Reviews: Helping others
4. Issues: Task management
Improve score by:
- Maintaining consistent activity
- Reviewing others' PRs
- Closing issues regularly
- Following PR best practices
