# VSCode Extension Fixes Applied - Nov 12, 2025
## ๐ฏ Summary
Successfully resolved the **"Loading Lanonasis Memory..." / "fetch failed"** issue in the VSCode extension.
## โ
Fixes Applied
### 1. **Missing Compiled Files** โ FIXED
**Problem:** Only 7 out of 17 required JavaScript files were compiled in `out/` directory.
**Solution:**
- Added `@lanonasis/memory-client@^1.0.0` from npm (was trying to use non-existent workspace dependency)
- Ran `bun install` and `bun run compile`
- Created `verify-build.sh` to validate all required files exist
**Result:** All 17 required files now compiled successfully.
### 2. **OAuth Token Not Passed to API Client** โ FIXED
**Problem:** After OAuth authentication, the token was stored in SecretStorage but `MemoryService` only checked for API keys, not OAuth tokens.
**File Modified:** `src/services/MemoryService.ts`
**Changes:**
```typescript
// Before: Only checked for API key
const apiKey = await this.resolveApiKey();
// After: Check OAuth token first, then fallback to API key
let authToken: string | null = null;
let apiKey: string | null = null;
if (this.secureApiKeyService) {
const authHeader = await this.secureApiKeyService.getAuthenticationHeader();
if (authHeader) {
authToken = authHeader.replace('Bearer ', '');
}
if (!authToken) {
apiKey = await this.resolveApiKey();
}
}
// Pass both to client
this.client = createMaaSClient({
apiUrl: effectiveUrl,
authToken: authToken || undefined,
apiKey: apiKey || undefined,
timeout: 30000
});
```
**Result:** OAuth authentication now properly passes Bearer token to API requests.

### 3. **URL Construction Issues** โ FIXED
**Problem:** URL normalization could create double `/api` paths or incorrect URLs depending on configuration.
**File Modified:** `src/services/memory-client-sdk.ts`
**Changes:**
- Added proper base URL normalization (remove trailing slashes and `/api` suffixes)
- Added endpoint normalization (ensure leading slash)
- Added detailed console logging for debugging
- Added proper timeout handling with AbortController
- Added content-type checking before parsing JSON
- Added specific error messages for timeout vs network errors
**Before:**
```typescript
const baseUrl = this.config.apiUrl.includes('/api')
? this.config.apiUrl.replace('/api', '')
: this.config.apiUrl;
const url = `${baseUrl}/api/v1${endpoint}`;
```
**After:**
```typescript
// Normalize base URL - remove trailing slash and any /api suffix
let baseUrl = this.config.apiUrl.trim();
if (baseUrl.endsWith('/')) {
baseUrl = baseUrl.slice(0, -1);
}
if (baseUrl.endsWith('/api') || baseUrl.endsWith('/api/v1')) {
baseUrl = baseUrl.replace(/\/api(\/v1)?$/, '');
}
// Ensure endpoint starts with /
const normalizedEndpoint = endpoint.startsWith('/') ? endpoint : `/${endpoint}`;
// Build full URL
const url = `${baseUrl}/api/v1${normalizedEndpoint}`;
console.log('[MaaSClient] Request:', url);
```
**Result:** URLs now consistently formatted as `https://api.lanonasis.com/api/v1/memory`.
### 4. **Error Handling Improvements** โ FIXED
**Problem:** Generic "fetch failed" messages didn't help diagnose issues.
**File Modified:** `src/panels/MemorySidebarProvider.ts`
**Changes:**
- Added 1.5-second delay on initial load to allow authentication to settle
- Added specific error type detection (auth errors, network errors, timeouts)
- Added user-friendly error messages with actionable guidance
- Improved error categorization:
- **Authentication errors (401)** โ Reset to auth screen
- **Network/timeout errors** โ Suggest checking network/configuration
- **Other errors** โ Display specific error message
**Before:**
```typescript
this._view.webview.postMessage({
type: 'error',
message: error instanceof Error ? error.message : 'Failed to load memories'
});
```
**After:**
```typescript
const errorMsg = error instanceof Error ? error.message : String(error);
// Check for specific error types
if (errorMsg.includes('Not authenticated') || errorMsg.includes('401')) {
// Reset to auth screen
this._view.webview.postMessage({
type: 'updateState',
state: { authenticated: false, memories: [], loading: false }
});
return;
}
// Network/timeout errors
if (errorMsg.includes('fetch') || errorMsg.includes('timeout') || errorMsg.includes('Network')) {
this._view.webview.postMessage({
type: 'error',
message: `Connection failed: ${errorMsg}. Check your network and API endpoint configuration.`
});
} else {
this._view.webview.postMessage({
type: 'error',
message: `Failed to load memories: ${errorMsg}`
});
}
```
**Result:** Users now see specific, actionable error messages instead of generic failures.
