# Alternative Approaches to Cursor Rules Management
This document explores innovative approaches for managing Cursor rules in large projects and teams, building on the current `.mdc` file system.
## Current Limitations & Opportunities
The current flat directory structure with category prefixes works well for small to medium projects, but could face challenges at scale:
- **Discoverability**: Finding the right rule among dozens or hundreds

- **Versioning**: Tracking rule evolution over time
