## Data
Mixed terms per part, stated in full in LICENSE and NOTICE. The compilation of wilayas, dairas, communes, their bilingual names, postal codes and administrative codes is MIT. The 69 wilaya boundary polygons, 323 OpenStreetMap-derived commune centre coordinates and the OpenStreetMap relation ids and Wikidata items on the commune and wilaya records are ODbL 1.0, © OpenStreetMap contributors. The mirrored postal data under data/poste: Data © Algérie Poste; redistributed for reference.
In detail, the data is compiled from public official sources. The compilation of
wilayas, dairas, communes, their bilingual names, postal codes and administrative
codes is offered under the MIT License above,
https://opensource.org/licenses/MIT. Five parts are not:
The four OpenStreetMap-derived parts are made available under the Open Database
License (ODbL) 1.0, (c) OpenStreetMap contributors:
https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/
- The 69 wilaya boundary polygons in `data/geojson/wilaya-boundaries.geojson`,
derived from OpenStreetMap `admin_level=4` relations.
- 323 commune centre coordinates (`latitude` and `longitude`), each taken from
that commune's own OpenStreetMap `admin_level=8` relation: 318 from its
`admin_centre` node, 56 corrected on 2026-09-27, 189 on 2026-09-29, 5 on
2026-10-01 and 68 corrected on 2026-10-01 by the coordinate review, which
writes a value only where independent sources vote for it
(`docs/adr/0001-coordinate-review-by-independent-votes.md`); and 5 from the
relation centroid, corrected in version 2.1.0. Those coordinates are
repeated in
`data/algeria.json`, `data/communes_w*.json`, `data/csv/communes.csv`,
`data/geojson/communes.geojson` and `data/sql/full.sql`, so the ODbL covers
those values in every representation that carries them.
- 6 of the 69 wilaya capital points, which are the same values again. A wilaya's
`latitude` / `longitude` is the centre of its capital commune, so where that
commune is one of the 323 above, the wilaya row carries an
OpenStreetMap-derived coordinate too: wilayas 7 (Biskra), 16 (Alger Centre),
25 (Constantine), 32 (El Bayadh), 52 (Beni-Abbes) and 61 (El Kantara), in
`data/algeria.json`, `data/csv/wilayas.csv`, `data/sql/full.sql`,
`data/geojson/wilayas.geojson` and `algeria.geojson`. The other 63 wilaya
capital points are the centres of communes with no recorded source and no ODbL
claim is made over them.
- The `osm_relation_id` and `wikidata` values on the commune and wilaya records, in
`data/algeria.json`, `data/communes_w*.json` and `data/wilayas.json`: 1,537 of the
1,541 communes and all 69 wilayas carry the id of their own OpenStreetMap
administrative relation (`admin_level=8` and `admin_level=4` respectively), and 1,536
communes and all 69 wilayas carry the `wikidata` item that relation is tagged with,
read off the Overpass capture whose `timestamp_osm_base` is 2026-09-29T12:54:47Z. A
record OpenStreetMap has no relation for, or a relation with no `wikidata` tag,
carries null and no claim.
If you use or redistribute any of those parts you must attribute OpenStreetMap
contributors and keep derived databases under a compatible licence.
The fifth part carries Algérie Poste's own terms, not the MIT License:
- The mirrored postal data under `data/poste/` (post offices and ATMs, generated
from `/poste`, which states the same terms): Data © Algérie Poste;
redistributed for reference. Redistributed for reference and to power
