# Manual Test Results - Embedded Hooks System
Date: 2025-07-31
Tested by: Claude Code Assistant
## Overview
Manual testing of the claudekit-hooks executable system to verify functionality after TypeScript migration.
## Test Environment
- Platform: macOS (Darwin 23.4.0)
- Node.js: Available
- Working Directory: /Users/carl/Development/agents/claudekit
- Git Repository: Yes
## Test Results
### 1. no-any Hook
**Test Command:**
```bash
echo '{"tool_input": {"file_path": "/tmp/test-sample.ts"}}' | ./bin/claudekit-hooks run no-any
```
**Result:** ✅ PASS
- Correctly detected 'any' type in TypeScript file
- Returned exit code 2 (blocking error)
- Displayed proper error message with instructions
### 2. auto-checkpoint Hook
**Test Command:**
```bash
echo '{}' | ./bin/claudekit-hooks run auto-checkpoint
```
**Result:** ✅ PASS
- Successfully created git stash without modifying working directory
- Returned silent JSON response as expected for Stop hooks
- Exit code 0 (success)
### 3. validate-todo-completion Hook
**Test Commands:**
```bash
# Test with incomplete todos
echo '{"transcript_path": "/tmp/mock-transcript.json"}' | ./bin/claudekit-hooks run validate-todo-completion
# Test with all todos complete
echo '{"transcript_path": "/tmp/mock-transcript-complete.json"}' | ./bin/claudekit-hooks run validate-todo-completion
```
**Result:** ✅ PASS
- Correctly blocked when incomplete todos existed
- Allowed operation when all todos were complete
- Returned proper JSON response with decision field
### 4. project-validation Hook
**Test Command:**
```bash
echo '{}' | ./bin/claudekit-hooks run project-validation
```
**Result:** ✅ PASS
- Successfully ran TypeScript and ESLint validation
- Detected actual validation errors in the project
- Returned exit code 2 with detailed error report
- Showed proper error formatting and instructions
### 5. typecheck Hook
**Test Command:**
```bash
echo '{"tool_input": {"file_path": "test-typecheck.ts"}}' | ./bin/claudekit-hooks run typecheck
```
**Result:** ✅ PASS
- Correctly detected TypeScript compilation errors
- Blocked with exit code 2
- Displayed appropriate error message
### 6. eslint Hook
**Test Command:**
```bash
echo '{"tool_input": {"file_path": "test-eslint.js"}}' | ./bin/claudekit-hooks run eslint
```
**Result:** ✅ PASS
- Successfully ran ESLint on JavaScript file
- Detected linting errors
- Blocked with exit code 2 and detailed error output
### 7. run-related-tests Hook
**Test Command:**
```bash
echo '{"tool_input": {"file_path": "cli/hooks/utils.ts"}}' | ./bin/claudekit-hooks run run-related-tests
```
**Result:** ✅ PASS
- Correctly identified that no test files existed for the given file
- Provided helpful suggestion to create tests
- Exit code 0 (warning, not blocking)
## Summary
All hooks tested successfully:
- ✅ All 7 hooks execute without runtime errors
- ✅ Exit codes are correct (0 for success/skip, 2 for blocking errors)
- ✅ Error messages are properly formatted
- ✅ JSON responses work correctly for Stop hooks
- ✅ File path detection and validation works
- ✅ Project root detection functions properly
- ✅ Package manager detection works correctly
## Verification of Requirements
1. **TypeScript Migration**: Complete - all hooks now run as TypeScript
2. **Dual Binary Architecture**: Working - claudekit-hooks binary functions independently
3. **Exit Codes**: Correct - following Claude Code conventions
4. **Error Formatting**: Consistent with shell script versions
5. **Stop Hook Support**: JSON responses working correctly
6. **PostToolUse Support**: File path extraction and validation working
## Conclusion
The embedded hooks system has been successfully implemented and all hooks are functioning correctly. The system is ready for production use.
