# MDAP Error Fixer - Session Handoff Document
**Date:** 2025-12-07 (Updated: 2025-12-08)

**Status:** V2+Retry achieved 97.6% reduction, quality validation done, ready for dedicated agent cleanup
## Executive Summary
Built a 3-layer gated Cerebras error fixer with Layer 1 retry-with-feedback that achieved **97.6% error reduction** (581 → 14 errors in iteration 1). Quality validation by 4 parallel agents rated fixes at **4.75/10 average**.

### Why Dedicated Agent vs More Cerebras Runs?

**Answer:** Yes, a dedicated agent will fix the quality issues because:
1. It reads the **full file context**, not just error snippets
2. It understands **Rust semantics** (import resolution, trait bounds, lifetimes)
3. It can **run cargo check** after each fix to verify
4. It won't make the same mistakes (duplicate imports, broken patterns)

## Next Steps (Prioritized)
### 1. Add Missing Gates (HIGH)
Add these validators to `cerebras-gated-fixer.ts`:

Current prompt doesn't emphasize:
- Preserve exact module paths
- Don't add duplicate pattern bindings
- Type casts must match expected types
### 3. Add AST-Level Validation (LONG-TERM)
Use `tree-sitter-rust` or `syn` to parse Rust AST and validate:
- Import paths resolve to real modules
- Match patterns match struct definitions
- Type annotations are correct
## Key Learnings
1. **Structural gates work** - 78% rejection rate caught bad fixes
2. **Semantic validation is hard** - LLM can produce syntactically valid but semantically broken code
3. **Rust compiler is not enough** - Code can compile but have logic bugs
4. **Second LLM review helps but isn't sufficient** - Layer 3 catches some issues but misses subtle bugs
