# Transport layer goals
The experimental transport layer [monorepo](https://github.com/micburks/aquameta) attempts to rethink this layer.
- modularize the `datum` API
- use functional components (curry, compose, etc.)
- separate queries from how/where they run
- reuse components of a query
- isomorphic javascript
- any logic, especially encoding/decoding request, in a single place/codebase
- runs in node or the browser
- run queries on database connections or over http
- avoid creating a new framework with `widget`
- provide primitives necessary to build abstract UI
- support using external code/packages from js ecosystem
- follow and allow evolving web standards
- separate from opinionated frameworks/technologies
- support es module import/export syntax and standardized module loading
- avoid bundlers/transpilers, instead rely on browser features/web standards
- generic way of referencing tables that contain code
