# Azure Subscription Resolution Strategy
## Current Situation Analysis
### Subscription Status
- **CBA-Pay-As-You-Go**: `Disabled` (5f9a3cfa-4851-4953-bdd16-a42bead33176)
- **Pay-As-You-Go**: `Warned` (3bb6fd82-796d-4ad5-87f0-4d9d47d09ae6)
- **Tenant**: 20cb7a52-c98f-424c-9b33-58a5877bd23b
### Immediate Blockers
- No `Enabled` subscriptions available for resource deployment
- Cannot create Azure API Center or other Azure resources
- All Azure CLI deployment operations will fail
## Resolution Strategies
### Strategy 1: Resolve Warned Subscription (Recommended)
The "Pay-As-You-Go" subscription in `Warned` state may be recoverable:
1. **Check billing status**:
```powershell
az billing account list --query "[].{Name:displayName, Id:id, Status:agreementType}" -o table
```
2. **Verify payment method**:
- Login to [Azure Portal](https://portal.azure.com)
- Navigate to **Cost Management + Billing**
- Check **Payment methods** section
- Update expired or failed payment methods
3. **Contact Azure Support**:
- Create support ticket for subscription state resolution
- Reference subscription ID: `3bb6fd82-796d-4ad5-87f0-4d9d47d09ae6`
### Strategy 2: Create New Subscription
If current subscriptions cannot be restored:
1. **Azure Free Account**:
- Visit [azure.microsoft.com/free](https://azure.microsoft.com/free)
- Create new free account (12 months + $200 credit)
- Suitable for development and testing
2. **Pay-As-You-Go Subscription**:
- Create through [Azure Portal](https://portal.azure.com)
- Requires valid payment method
- No upfront costs, pay only for usage
### Strategy 3: Alternative Development Options
#### Option A: Azure Dev/Test Subscription
- Visual Studio subscribers get monthly Azure credits
- Reduced rates for development workloads
- Check [my.visualstudio.com](https://my.visualstudio.com) for benefits
#### Option B: Microsoft Learn Sandbox
- Temporary Azure environments for learning
- Limited time and resources
- Good for testing concepts
#### Option C: Azure Trial
- 30-day free trial with $200 credit
- Convert to pay-as-you-go after trial
- Requires new email if previous trial used
### Strategy 4: Multi-Tenant Deployment
If you have access to other Azure tenants:
1. **Check available tenants**:
```powershell
az account tenant list --query "[].{TenantId:tenantId, DisplayName:displayName, Domains:domains[0]}" -o table
```
2. **Switch tenant**:
```powershell
az login --tenant <tenant-id>
az account list --query "[?state=='Enabled']" -o table
```
## Immediate Action Plan
### Phase 1: Diagnostic and Recovery (30 minutes)
1. **Check billing and payment status**
2. **Attempt subscription reactivation**
3. **Contact Azure Support if needed**
### Phase 2: Alternative Setup (1 hour)
If Phase 1 fails:
1. **Create new Azure subscription**
2. **Configure billing alerts and limits**
3. **Set up proper RBAC and governance**
### Phase 3: API Center Deployment (30 minutes)
Once enabled subscription is available:
1. **Run enhanced deployment script**
2. **Verify resource creation**
3. **Register APIs and upload specifications**
## Cost Management Recommendations
### Immediate Cost Controls
```powershell
# Set up spending limit (if supported)
az consumption budget create \
--budget-name "monthly-limit" \
--amount 50 \
--time-grain Monthly \
--time-period start-date=2025-01-01 \
--resource-group "rg-api-center-standards" \
--category Cost
# Create cost alert
az monitor action-group create \
--name "cost-alerts" \
--resource-group "rg-api-center-standards" \
--short-name "CostAlert"
```
### Estimated Monthly Costs (API Center)
- **Azure API Center**: ~$5-15/month (Standard tier)
- **Resource Group**: Free
- **Storage Account**: ~$1-5/month (for specs/docs)
- **Total Estimated**: ~$6-20/month
## Next Steps Script
Create automated resolution script:
```powershell
# Check and resolve subscription status
./scripts/check-subscription-status.ps1
./scripts/wait-for-subscription-activation.ps1
# Deploy if subscription is active
if ($LASTEXITCODE -eq 0) {
./scripts/deploy-to-azure-api-center.ps1
} else {
Write-Host "Subscription not ready. Follow manual resolution steps." -ForegroundColor Yellow
}
```
## Monitoring and Alerts
### Subscription Health Monitoring
```powershell
# Daily subscription status check
az account show --query "state" -o tsv
# Billing alert setup
az monitor metrics alert create \
--name "high-costs" \
--resource-group "rg-api-center-standards" \
--scopes "/subscriptions/$SUBSCRIPTION_ID" \
--condition "avg BillingMonth > 40" \
--description "Alert when monthly costs exceed $40"
```
## Business Continuity
### Backup Deployment Options
1. **Azure Resource Manager Templates**: Export for redeployment
2. **Terraform State**: Backup and version control
3. **Configuration Scripts**: Automated setup scripts
4. **API Specifications**: Store in multiple locations
### Multi-Region Strategy
- Primary: West Europe (lowest latency)
- Secondary: North Europe (disaster recovery)
- Archive: East US (cost optimization)
