<!-- Learn how to maintain this file at https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/tree/HEAD/packages#maintaining-changelogs. --> ## Unreleased ## 0.36.0 (2026-07-14) ### Enhancement - Honor the `wp_editor_set_quality` filter for client-side processed images. Sub-size resizing and transcoding now use the size-aware quality reported by the new `image_quality` field on the attachment upload response, instead of a hardcoded default. ### Enhancements - Widen React peer dependency ranges to `^18 || ^19` to support both React 18 and React 19 environments ([#80024](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/80024)). ## 0.35.0 (2026-07-01) ## 0.34.0 (2026-06-24) ### Enhancement - Add `ErrorCode` enum and localized `getErrorMessage()` helper. Existing `UploadError` throw sites now use enum values, and `ErrorCode` / `getErrorMessage` are exported from the package entry point ([#74917](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/74917)). - Log upload cancellations and batch completions via a `SCRIPT_DEBUG`-gated `console.debug` diagnostic; top-level cancellations without an `onError` handler are surfaced via `console.error` ([#74917](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/74917)). - Emit User Timings API entries for upload, sideload, resize, rotate, and transcode operations under a custom "Upload Media" DevTools track when `SCRIPT_DEBUG` is enabled ([#74917](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/74917)). ### Bug Fix - `uploadItem` no longer dispatches `finishOperation` twice when both `onFileChange` and `onSuccess` fire for the same attachment ([#74917](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/74917)). - Apply EXIF orientation to AVIF/HEIF sub-sizes when the orientation is stored in an EXIF tag rather than a native `irot` transform, which neither the server nor libvips auto-rotates ([#79384](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/79384)). ## 0.33.1 (2026-06-16) ## 0.33.0 (2026-06-10) ### Enhancement - UltraHDR (ISO 21496-1 gain map) JPEGs are now detected and resized via libvips's native `uhdrload`/`uhdrsave` pipeline, so gain maps are preserved automatically through the existing resize step ([#74873](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/74873)). - Automatically retry failed uploads with exponential backoff for transient (network/server) errors. Retry behavior is configurable via the `retry` store setting; non-transient failures and child sideloads are not retried. The upload queue can also be paused and resumed, allowing uploads to halt while the browser is offline and continue on reconnect ([#76765](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/76765)). ### Bug Fix - Route very large images, especially interlaced/progressive JPEGs, to server-side processing instead of attempting client-side processing that would exceed the 1 GiB wasm-vips memory cap and fail. [#78949](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/78949). ### Code Quality - Add missing `@types/react` dependency. [#78882](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/78882). ## 0.32.0 (2026-05-27) ### Bug Fix - Fix `-scaled` suffix propagating to every sub-size filename when an image exceeds `big_image_size_threshold`. Threshold scaling now runs as a sideload after the original is uploaded, so sub-sizes inherit the un-suffixed basename — matching WordPress core's `wp_create_image_subsizes()` naming. - Propagate the post-finalize attachment from `mediaFinalize` back to the queue so the block markup picks up the `-scaled` URL. Without this, oversized client-side uploads kept the unscaled original's URL in the block, and `wp_calculate_image_srcset()` could not match the `src` to any entry in `$image_meta['sizes']` — so the front-end `<img>` shipped without `srcset`. ## 0.31.0 (2026-05-14) ## 0.30.0 (2026-04-29) ### Enhancement - Remove sideload upload serialization: thumbnail uploads now run concurrently, governed by `maxConcurrentUploads` instead of being queued one-at-a-time per attachment ([#75257](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/75257)). ## 0.29.0 (2026-04-15) ## 0.28.0 (2026-04-01) ## 0.27.0 (2026-03-18) ## 0.26.0 (2026-03-04) ## 0.25.0 (2026-02-18) ## 0.24.0 (2026-01-29) ## 0.23.0 (2026-01-16) ## 0.21.0 (2025-11-26) ## 0.20.0 (2025-11-12) ## 0.19.0 (2025-10-29) ## 0.18.0 (2025-10-17) ## 0.17.0 (2025-10-01) ## 0.16.0 (2025-09-17) ## 0.15.0 (2025-09-03) ## 0.14.0 (2025-08-20) ## 0.13.0 (2025-08-07) ## 0.12.0 (2025-07-23) ## 0.11.0 (2025-06-25) ## 0.10.0 (2025-06-04) ## 0.9.0 (2025-05-22) ## 0.8.0 (2025-05-07) ## 0.7.0 (2025-04-11) ## 0.6.0 (2025-03-27) ## 0.5.0 (2025-03-13) ## 0.4.0 (2025-02-28) ## 0.3.0 (2025-02-12) ## 0.2.0 (2025-01-29) ## 0.1.0 (2025-01-15) Initial release.
