Out of the box, the {{ site.product }} Segmented Control provides extensive accessibility support and enables users with disabilities to acquire complete control over its features. The Segmented Control is compliant with the [Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/) standards and [Section 508](https://www.section508.gov/) requirements, follows the [Web Accessibility Initiative - Accessible Rich Internet Applications (WAI-ARIA)](https://www.w3.org/WAI/ARIA/apg/) best practices for implementing the [keyboard navigation](#keyboard-navigation) for its `component` role, provides options for managing its focus and is tested against the most popular screen readers. ## WAI-ARIA This section lists the selectors, attributes, and behavior patterns supported by the component and its composite elements, if any. ### Segmented Control Component The Segmented Control is a selection component that allows users to choose between mutually exclusive options. It functions as a group of toggle buttons, with a visual indicator (thumb) that slides to highlight the selected option. | Selector | Attribute | Usage | | -------- | --------- | ----- | | `.k-segmented-control` | `role=group` | Sets the proper role for the group of buttons. | ### Segmented Control Buttons Each button within the segmented control represents a selectable option. | Selector | Attribute | Usage | | -------- | --------- | ----- | | `.k-segmented-control-button` | `role=button` or `nodeName=button` | Each button must have the appropriate button role. | | | `aria-label` | Each button should be properly labelled. Use `aria-label` if the button contains only an icon without text. | | `.k-segmented-control-button.k-selected` | `aria-pressed=true` | Only the selected button within the group will have this attribute set to true. | | `.k-segmented-control-button.k-disabled` | `aria-disabled=true` | Indicates that the button is disabled and cannot be interacted with. | ### Visual Selection Indicator (Thumb) The thumb is a visual element that slides to indicate the selected button. It should be hidden from assistive technologies. | Selector | Attribute | Usage | | -------- | --------- | ----- | | `.k-segmented-control-thumb` | `aria-hidden=true` | The thumb is purely decorative and should be hidden from screen readers. | ### Button Component [Button accessibility specification]({{button_a11y_link}}) ## Resources [WAI-ARIA `button` Role Specification](https://www.w3.org/TR/wai-aria-1.2/#button) [WAI-ARIA `group` Role Specification](https://www.w3.org/TR/wai-aria-1.2/#group) ## Section 508 The Segmented Control is fully compliant with the [Section 508 requirements](http://www.section508.gov/). ## Testing The Segmented Control has been extensively tested automatically with [axe-core](https://github.com/dequelabs/axe-core) and manually with the most popular screen readers. > To report any accessibility issues, contact the team through the [Telerik Support System](https://www.telerik.com/account/support-center). ### Screen Readers The Segmented Control has been tested with the following screen readers and browsers combinations: | Environment | Tool | | ----------- | ---- | | Firefox | NVDA | | Chrome | JAWS | | Microsoft Edge | JAWS |
