# Task 6: Screenshots & Final Assets - Implementation Summary ## Overview This task focused on creating tools and documentation for capturing authentic screenshots of the MCP debugger in action. The key principle was 100% authenticity - all screenshots must come from real debugging sessions with no mock data or staging. ## Files Created ### 1. `examples/visualizer/capture_guide.md` A comprehensive guide for capturing screenshots that includes: - Prerequisites and setup instructions - Exact MCP commands for each screenshot scenario - What to capture for each of the 4 required screenshots - OS-specific screenshot tool recommendations - Troubleshooting tips ### 2. `examples/visualizer/optimize_screenshots.py` A Python script that: - Optimizes PNG file sizes for web delivery (target <200KB) - Creates WebP versions for modern browsers - Maintains 100% authentic content (only reduces file size) - Provides detailed optimization statistics - Includes authenticity verification reminders ### 3. `assets/screenshots/README.md` Documentation for the screenshots directory that: - Describes each screenshot with key features - Provides usage examples for documentation (Markdown and HTML) - Emphasizes authenticity guarantee - Includes technical specifications - Shows expected file organization ## Screenshot Requirements ### 1. **debugging-session.png** - Shows paused debugging session at breakpoint - Displays breakpoint marker (●) and current line indicator (→) - Includes stack trace in tool panel - Captures real debugpy session via MCP ### 2. **variable-inspection.png** - Shows the actual bug in swap_vars.py (both variables become 20) - Displays get_variables response - Demonstrates real debugging flow - No mock data - actual bug behavior ### 3. **mcp-integration.png** - Shows raw MCP protocol communication - Includes tool:call and tool:response JSON - Demonstrates actual client-server messages - No prettifying - authentic protocol data ### 4. **multi-session.png** - Shows multiple concurrent debug sessions - Real session IDs and names - Demonstrates session management - Each session is a real debugpy instance ## Key Principles Implemented 1. **100% Authenticity** - No log injection or fake states - Real debugging sessions only - Actual bugs and behavior - Reproducible by anyone 2. **Simplicity** - Uses OS-native screenshot tools - Clear step-by-step instructions - No complex capture scripts needed 3. **Professional Quality** - Optimization for web delivery - Consistent dimensions (1200x800) - WebP alternatives for modern browsers - Clear documentation ## Usage Instructions 1. **Capture Screenshots**: ```bash # Terminal 1: Start the system python examples/visualizer/demo_runner.py # Terminal 2: Connect MCP client and execute commands # Use OS screenshot tools to capture at key moments ``` 2. **Optimize Files**: ```bash python examples/visualizer/optimize_screenshots.py ``` 3. **Use in Documentation**: ```markdown ![Debugging Session](assets/screenshots/debugging-session.png) *Active debugging session with breakpoint and current line indicators* ``` ## Success Criteria Met - ✅ Created capture guide with exact MCP commands - ✅ Built optimization tool that preserves authenticity - ✅ Documented all screenshots with descriptions - ✅ Emphasized real system demonstration - ✅ Made process reproducible by anyone ## What Was NOT Created As per requirements, these were explicitly NOT created: - ❌ No `setup_screenshot_states.py` - No fake states - ❌ No log injection scripts - Real logs only - ❌ No staging or mocking tools ## Next Steps To complete the screenshot capture: 1. Build the MCP server: `npm run build` 2. Follow the capture guide to take screenshots 3. Save to `assets/screenshots/` with correct names 4. Run optimization script 5. Screenshots ready for release documentation This approach proves that mcp-debugger is production-ready with real, reproducible functionality that users will experience exactly as shown.
