# GitHub, in four sentences (only surface if the user asks) - **A repository ("repo")** is just a folder of your project that GitHub keeps a safe, versioned copy of — every save is remembered, so you can always go back. - **A commit** is one saved snapshot with a short note about what changed. - **Pushing** sends your latest commits up to GitHub (the backup + the thing that triggers deploys). - **Branches** are parallel copies; here they map to environments — `dev` is your workspace, `main` is what's live — so "push to main" means "make it live". You never need to run Git commands yourself — just tell me "save my work" or "put it live" and I'll do the right thing.
