# Charges Auto-Matcher Module
## Overview
This directory contains the specification and implementation plan for a transaction-document
matching system for the Accounter fullstack application. The matcher uses a confidence-based
algorithm to automatically suggest and link financial transactions with their corresponding
documents (invoices, receipts, etc.).

**40 TypeScript files total** (17 test files, 23 implementation files)
## Key Features
### Single-Match Query
Find up to 5 potential matches for an unmatched charge:
```graphql
query FindChargeMatches($chargeId: UUID!) {
findChargeMatches(chargeId: $chargeId) @auth(role: ACCOUNTANT) {
matches {
chargeId
confidenceScore
}
}
}
```
**Features:**
- Returns array of matches (up to 5)
- Ordered by confidence score (descending)
- Date proximity used for tie-breaking
- Requires ACCOUNTANT role
- 12-month date window filtering
### Auto-Match Mutation
Automatically match all unmatched charges above 95% confidence:
```graphql
mutation AutoMatchCharges {
autoMatchCharges @auth(role: ACCOUNTANT) {
totalMatches
mergedCharges {
chargeId
confidenceScore
}
skippedCharges
errors
}
}
```
**Features:**
- Processes all unmatched charges
- Merges charges ≥0.95 confidence (single match only)
- Skips ambiguous cases (multiple high matches)
- No time window restriction
- Tracks merged charges to avoid double-processing
- Returns comprehensive summary
## Confidence Scoring
The matcher uses a weighted formula combining four factors:
| Factor | Weight | Description |
| ------------ | ------ | ------------------------------ |
| **Amount** | 40% | How close the amounts are |
| **Currency** | 20% | Same currency vs. different |
| **Business** | 30% | Business ID match |
| **Date** | 10% | Date proximity (30-day window) |
**Formula:** `confidence = (amount × 0.4) + (currency × 0.2) + (business × 0.3) + (date × 0.1)`
## Database Schema Alignment
### Key Field Names (Actual Implementation)
- ✅ Documents use `charge_id` (FK to charges)
- ✅ Transactions use `source_description` for descriptions
- ✅ All IDs are UUIDs (PostgreSQL `gen_random_uuid()`)
- ✅ Transaction amounts: `numeric` type (already correctly signed)
- ✅ Document amounts: `double precision` type
- ✅ Currency type: `currency` enum from documents module
- ✅ Document type: `document_type` enum from documents module
- ✅ Accounting document types: INVOICE, CREDIT_INVOICE, RECEIPT, INVOICE_RECEIPT
- ✅ Non-accounting types: PROFORMA, OTHER, UNPROCESSED
### Transaction Date Fields
- `event_date`: Primary date for matching (always used)
- `debit_date`: Optional debit date
- `debit_timestamp`: Optional precise debit timestamp
- Note: Implementation uses `event_date` for all document types
### Document Business Fields
- `creditor_id`: UUID reference to business entity
- `debtor_id`: UUID reference to business entity
- Note: Legacy text fields `creditor` and `debtor` are ignored
### No Migrations Needed
All required tables, indexes, and enums already exist in the database! ✨
## Integration Points
### Existing Modules (Used via Injector)
- **ChargesProvider** (`@modules/charges`):
- `getChargeByIdLoader`: Load single charge
- `getChargesByFilters`: Load charges by owner/date filters
- `mergeChargesExecutor` (helper): Execute charge merge
- **TransactionsProvider** (`@modules/transactions`):
- `transactionsByChargeIDLoader`: Load transactions for charge
- Type: `IGetTransactionsByIdsResult`
- **DocumentsProvider** (`@modules/documents`):
- `getDocumentsByChargeIdLoader`: Load documents for charge
- Type: `IGetAllDocumentsResult`
- Enums: `currency`, `document_type`
### Authentication
- User context: `context.adminContext.ownerId`
- Authorization: `@auth(role: ACCOUNTANT)` directive on GraphQL operations
- All operations require authenticated accountant role
### Error Handling
- **Helpers/Providers**: Throw standard `Error` with descriptive messages
- **Resolvers**: Catch and convert to `GraphQLError`
- **Pattern**: Matches existing codebase (charges, transactions modules)
- **Note**: CommonError union types not used (GraphQL layer handles errors)
## Testing Strategy
- **Unit tests**: All helper functions (>95% coverage)
- **Integration tests**: Providers with database
- **End-to-end tests**: Full GraphQL mutations/queries
- **Edge case tests**: Null handling, extreme values, boundary conditions
